Brian Thoreen
Born in California in 1979, artist and designer Brian Thoreen grew up in the world of construction, metalworking, and artistic installation: experiences that provided him with a unique and intimate understanding of space and material interactions.
He is one of the founders of the MASA gallery in Mexico City and the experimental glass studio Vissio and currently works between Mexico City and Paris. His works, both functional and non-functional, have been exhibited and sold in art and design galleries worldwide.
Brian Thoreen explores materials with a radical approach, blurring the boundaries between function and sculpture.
His practice balances tensions between simplicity and sophistication, between matter and form. He uses rubber, wax, paper, copper, brass, and other materials to question their integrity and bend them to his vision. Celebrating strangeness in the familiar, his works evoke wonder and unease, the result of a continuous emotional and technical experimentation.
